Luis Rosado Celebrates 25 Years
Fostering a work environment that encourages growth, collaboration, and innovation is a fundamental value at our firm. You don't often see long-tenured employees who have dedicated their work to one company; however, we embrace a culture of longevity. Seeing our talented team members expand their skill sets and take on new roles is exciting. This month, we congratulate Luis Rosado, Principal/Owner, on his 25th anniversary! Luis has extensive experience in his field with a robust portfolio of projects. Do you remember your first day?
Yes, I remember my first day fondly; Jim Kelley interviewed me. My previous experience was in commercial construction, where I worked with concrete, masonry, and steel materials. When I joined FK, I first remember feeling lost because I was unfamiliar with wood construction. However, the team offered me a warm welcome and was patient and helpful, and I learned this new construction area quickly and eventually mastered it. Immediately, I realized that FK fosters an environment of growth and encouragement. I felt very welcomed from the start!
What was the firm like then?
The firm was smaller, and there was less collaboration between studios. It sometimes felt disjointed, and everyone worked in their specialty only. I'm proud to say we have made significant progress in building community within the firm. Now, FK feels like a big family where everyone looks out for one another, supports each other, and encourages creative risks and innovation!
How has your job changed over the years?
My first role at the firm was as a drafter, picking up redlines from the project architect. I only had a little experience in the architectural world, but I was eager to learn as much as possible and gain new skills. As I became more familiar with the type of work and how the firm operated, I became less reliant on others for direction. My confidence and overall talent grew, and I could make decisions with little guidance and offer valuable project insights. Now, I am responsible for multiple projects, from building design, client communications, staff management, and consultant coordination, to construction administration.
Talk to us about some of the big successes in the last 25 years of FK. What moments stand out to you? What are you the proudest of?
While there have been many milestones throughout my 25 years at the firm, two moments stand out that I am incredibly proud of. The first was when I was given the opportunity to run my first job and be part of the process - from initial design to project completion. The second was the day I was promoted to Principal in the firm. All the hard work and long hours spent were worth the sacrifice.
What will the next 25 years look like?
Hopefully, I will continue to grow my role at the firm and become a managing principal to help more on the company's business side. I also enjoy mentoring others. Continuing to help clients reach their goals and accomplish innovative and modern designs that change the architectural landscape will always be my priority and focus! I look forward to what the next 25 years have to offer!
