FK Architecture Focuses on Affordable Housing

Everyone Should Have A Safe and Solid Place to Call Home
FK Architecture Focuses on Affordable Housing, Partners with Habitat for Humanity!

We pride ourselves on designing affordable housing projects across the U.S., and we understand first-hand the pandemic's impact on this market. Rent prices have spiked 15 to 20 percent over the past year, construction costs have increased, and inventory is scarce. That is why we have been longstanding partners with Habitat for Humanity to help raise funds and provide affordable housing opportunities in our local community. FK has again partnered with Habitat for Humanity's Seminole-Apopka branch for their Women Build program. 2022 will be the 5th year that Managing Principal Kimberly Hellekson has led this effort of FK women employees raising funds and participating in building a home for a local resident. Together, the FK team has raised over $18,000 over the past four years and aims to raise another $5000 more for 2022.

Our passion for affordable housing does not stop with Habitat for Humanity. We were recently awarded the 2021 MHN Excellence Award in Best Development & Design: Affordable (Workforce) for The Palms at Town Center development project! While we remain hopeful that the state government will find ways to serve the affordable housing need, we know we can do more to help now. It is up to us to step in and find ways to navigate the financial, legal, and environmental challenges that are causing this housing crisis.

One-in-six Floridians face unaffordable housing costs every month, and our partnership with Habitat for Humanity is one way to decrease those numbers by providing homes with low-cost mortgages to families in need. We firmly believe that every Floridian should have an affordable, safe, and solid place to call home. We encourage everyone to help us, and Habitat for Humanity, by donating to our 2022 Women Build Team Page.
